CARDIAC - Adult cardiac surgery with broad exposure to coronary, valve, and aortic surgery including experience with heart failure and transplant. Includes consult coverage and bimonthly clinics at on-site Veteran's Administration (VA) facility. (All VA patients go to UK Hospital for surgery and post-op management.)
THORACIC - General thoracic surgery with broad exposure to lung, esophageal, chest wall, pleural, and mediastinal diseases.
Includes on-call coverage of on-site VA facility for thoracic emergencies.
CONGENITAL - Congenital cardiac surgery
CT-ICU (Cardiothoracic ICU)  - Comprehensive critical care management for cardiothoracic patients
SURGICAL CRITICAL CARE - Management of emergency general surgery patients in a critical care setting.
ECHO/CATH LAB - Cardiology focused rotation teaching performance and interpretation of cardiac testing. Hybrid rotation with the cath lab and interventional pulmonary experience, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Peds ICU (CARDIOTHORACIC PEDIATRIC ICU) - A hybrid rotation with Pediatric ICU for congential cardiac patients and evaluating congenital heart disease in cath and echo labs.

TRACK SPECIFIC CHIEF ROTATION - Varies depending on planned practice focus of resident either cardiac or thoracic at UK.

ELECTIVE OPTIONS:

  • Cardiac - Adult cardiac surgery with focus on complex patients.

  • Thoracic - General thoracic surgery with focus on complex patients.

  • Congenital - Congenital cardiac surgery

  • Interventional Pulmonary - Focusing on airway interventions

  • Cath Lab / TAVR - Focused time for minimally invasive caerdiac valve surgery including TAVR and mitraclip

  • Heart failure/Transplant - Focus on heart failure clinic, transplant conferences, ECMO management, organ procurements, and transplants.

LOCATIONS

SAINT ELIZABETH HEALTHCARE - The health care system serving the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region consists of six regional hospitals.
CLARK REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER - A 79-bed regional hospital serving the east central region of Kentucky. A member of LifePoint Health, the hospital is located in Winchester, Kentucky and is the focal point of a network of community hospitals serving counties adjoining the Lexington/Fayette County region. 

No
