Application Requirements 

  • USMLE scores – mandatory passage on first attempt*
    • USMLE Part 1 Score >220
    • USMLE Part 2 Score >220
    • Electronic Application (ERAS)
      • Medical School Transcript
      • MSPE (Dean's Letter)
      • Curriculum Vitae
      • Three letters of recommendation
      • ECFMG Certificate (if applicable)
      • E-mail address – we will respond to all questions via e-mail
      • Recent medical school graduate (e.g., within the past four years)
      • Our institution sponsors the J1 Visa
      • No United States experience required for International Medical Graduates (IMGs)

 *Although USMLE transcripts may appear as optional on the ERAS application, we require that these scores be included. You will need to request official transcripts from NBME be mailed to us through ERAS.

All materials must be submitted electronically.
Applications are not considered if any of the above requirements are missing/incomplete.

 


Recruitment Events Timeline
 

Friday
There is an optional mixer event on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Although this event is optional, applicants are highly encouraged to attend.   The mixer provides applicants the opportunity to meet current residents in a casual setting. Applicant's spouses are welcome to attend. No faculty will be present at the Friday night mixer.

Saturday
The interview day begins on Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast at the Charles T. Wethington, Jr. Building.  After a brief introduction to the program by Sandra Beck, MD, General Surgery Residency Program Director, applicants will then relocate to the General Surgery offices for the interview portion of the day. At the conclusion of the interview sessions, residents will lead applicants on a tour of UK HealthCare's facilities.* Lunch will be provided and the interview day will conclude by 1:00 p.m.
*PLEASE NOTE: The facility tour involves a great deal of walking, so please bring appropriate footwear.
