Surgical outcomes research is an ongoing quality assessment process within the UK Department of Surgery. Surgeons and department researchers analyze results from the broad spectrum of specialized procedures performed at UK Healthcare and outcomes relative to national benchmarks are compared.
The subsequent data allows our surgeons in every division to assess surgical risk, consider local process and quality improvement efforts, inspire deeper research investigation, and add to the body of outcomes research in the national database.
Available databases include:
- ACS - NSQIP
- Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Database
- United Network for Organ Sharing
- National Trauma Databank
- Kentucky Cancer Registry
- University HealthSystem Consortium
For information about performing research using any of these datasets, please contact
Dan Davenport, PhD, Director of the Office of Decision Support, by email or by phone at 859-323-5940.
Dr. Davenport’s research is in assessing surgical outcomes and risk. He also supports the research efforts of other faculty members through methods consultation, data design and management, statistical analysis and reporting.
