Welcome to the Plastic Surgery Residency Program at the University of Kentucky
The Division of Plastic Surgery emphasizes broad based training in all aspects of reconstructive surgery. The division has active clinical and research interests in the areas of microvascular and craniofacial surgery. The implementation of a craniofacial team has pulled together the various disciplines within the UK Chandler Medical Center that can provide comprehensive care for the adult and pediatric patient with craniofacial deformity and dysfunction. The division also plays an active role in the comprehensive clinics of breast and head and neck oncology.
Along with Orthopaedic Surgery, the Division of Plastic Surgery conducts the Combined Hand and Upper Extremity Service. All aspects of hand surgery are addressed, including trauma, congenital, rheumatoid and reconstructive surgery. Newer techniques of microsurgery, bone distraction, and nerve repair are evaluated and offered to patients. Research projects in wound healing, bone growth factors, and carrier vehicles are ongoing. Other research in laser technology and skin substitutes are also being evaluated.
The Division of Plastic Surgery hosts several visiting professors throughout the year, nationally recognized physicians who impart expert contributions to the faculty and residents. Two well-established events are in the fall and spring sessions.
In addition to reconstructive procedures, our faculty are fully trained in all aspects of aesthetic surgery. These cases are performed in state-of-the-art ambulatory facilities.UK is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
