Fellowship Case Logs

Open heart bypass procedure

Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellows at the University of Kentucky easily exceed the ACGME-mandated minimums in thoracic and cardiac procedures over 24 months. They get the OR time necessary to become competent, board certified cardiac or thoracic surgeons. UK's program is such that there is no competition for a place in the operating room to observe and assist in advanced surgical procedures.

Patients from the University of Kentucky's service area present some of the most complex sets of pathologies in the United States. It is a learning environment for any surgeon to hone their operative skills.
