Research Experience

The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is committed to its diversity and success in research.  Our work has been presential nationally and published.  These include projects in quality improvement, public health, surgical disparities, healthcare economics ACS-NSQIP data sets, etc. 

Currently active studies include:

  • Barriers in telehealth care
  • Disparities in colon and rectal cancer treatments
  • Surgical outcomes and opioid use
  • Colectomy cost of care
  • Healthcare policy and colorectal cancer screening
  • SSI’s following colectomy

Research is a requirement of the Colon and Rectal Surgery Fellowship.  Abstract submission to a major surgical meeting such ACS or ASCRS and manuscript publication preparation is required for program completion.

Research Support

The Department of Surgery provides extensive resources through the Surgical Research Core Group and the Surgery Publications Office to help residents, and fellows organize and submit manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
