The UK Department of Surgery hosts three surgical residency programs: General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and a Cardiothoracic Surgery I-6 program. Each has a distinguished reputation for preparing medical students for a professional surgical practice after five or six years, depending on the program. At the conclusion of the program, graduates are well-prepared to begin a professional practice. For those who wish to continue their training, our residents regularly match into fellowships at leading national and international surgical training programs, including our own university.
Alongside these programs, UK offers surgical residency training in the following six specialities: Neurosurgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Urology. Most require a preliminary year in General Surgery.
The University of Kentucky College of Medicine offers residents the opportunity to study alongside a nationally recognized faculty of accomplished surgeons and leading researchers with numerous medical device patents and published articles to their credit.
