Along with Orthopaedic Surgery, the Division of Plastic Surgery conducts the Combined Hand and Upper Extremity Service. All aspects of hand surgery are addressed, including trauma, congenital, rheumatoid and reconstructive surgery. Newer techniques of microsurgery, bone distraction, and nerve repair are evaluated and offered to patients. Research projects in wound healing, bone growth factors, and carrier vehicles are ongoing. Other research in laser technology and skin substitutes are also being evaluated.
The Division of Plastic Surgery hosts several visiting professors throughout the year, nationally recognized physicians who impart expert contributions to the faculty and residents. Two well-established events are in the fall and spring sessions.
In addition to reconstructive procedures, our faculty are fully trained in all aspects of aesthetic surgery. These cases are performed in state-of-the-art ambulatory facilities. UK is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
